The new hospital will also start recruiting doctors, nurses and administrators in October – about half the headcount required for its first phase of operations.
Set to start work in December, the more than 400 staff at Macao’s new hospital won’t experience the limitations of the government’s public servants system.
Work will begin on the final phase of Islands Healthcare Complex by December, around when its first phase buildings will open to patients.
Work on the 2.2-kilometre-long section, designed to connect Cotai and Hengqin Island, started in March 2021.
Some 340 accommodation units are being built for senior physicians, mostly from mainland China, at the Islands Healthcare Complex in Cotai.
When fully operational, the Islands Healthcare Complex will increase the number of available hospital beds in Macao by nearly 50 percent.
