Consumer prices in Macau in May continued to slow, with year on year inflation at a rate of 1.64 per cent, or 38 basis points less than in April, said the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).
A chart provided by DSEC in the statement on May’s CPI shows that the general index has been falling since May 2015, when inflation totalled 5.5 per cent.
DSEC also said that compared to May 2015, growth of the consumer prices indices of the categories of Food and non-Alcoholic Beverages and Fuel, continued to slow.
On the other hand, the price indices of the categories of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, Education, and Transport, rose by 42,69 per cent, 8.98 per cent and 7.71 per cent, respectively.
In May the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.14 per cent against April 2016. The most significant growth, of 4.33 per cent, was reported fro Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco.
The rate of inflation, measured as the average variation over the last 12 months against the preceding 12 months, rose by 3.90 per cent following significant rises in the categories of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (+33.84 per cent) and Education (+7.46 per cent).
