Macau’s casinos took in gross revenue of 22.676 billion patacas (US$2.8345 billion) in August, up 20.4 percent year-on-year, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau announced on Friday.

The percentage variation over the previous month, though one of the highest since the year began, reverses the rising trend since May, when it grew by 23.7 percent year-on-year. That figure rose to 25.9% in June and 29.2 percent in July.

In any case, August was the thirteenth straight month of increased gross revenue of casinos. The same month of 2016 witnessed the reversal of a series of 26 consecutive months of falling revenues.

Gross revenue accumulated from January to August stood at 172.016 billion patacas (US$21.502 billion), with year-on-year growth of 19.1 percent, also according to the figures released on Friday.

At the end of the first quarter of 2017 there were 39 casinos in Macau operated by six concessionaires: Sociedade de Jogos de Macau (21), Galaxy Casino (6), Venetian Macau (5), Melco Crown Jogos – Macau (4), Wynn Resorts – Macau (2) and MGM Grand Paradise (1). Together they counted 6,413 gaming tables and 16,204 slot machines.
