Macao Water will continue to “optimise” its facilities, the company’s executive director, Nacky Kuan Sio Peng, promised Thursday.

Kuan made the pledge in a speech during the public utility’s Media Spring luncheon. The event was attended by dozens of representatives of Macau’s Chinese-, English and Portuguese-language print and broadcasting media.

Kuan said she expected that construction of the fourth raw water pipe from the mainland to Macau will be completed in the second quarter of this year, adding that raw water imported from the mainland will be transported to Macau from Zhuhai’s Hengqin Island “progressively starting from the second half of the year.”

According to Kuan, Macao Water has also been speeding up construction of the Seac Pai Van Water Treatment Plant, aiming to start operation by the end of next year.

Kuan also said that her company planned to introduce more customer service functions on smart phones to meet the needs of customers, “so as to provide higher quality services without compromising water supply safety and security”.

Referring to Macao Water’s activities in 2018, Kuan said the company’s focus last year was on developing smart systems – the optimisation of its smart water supply pipeline networks, launch of its smart water meter installation pilot programme, deployment of an intelligent customer service robot, and enhancement of its WeChat account services.

Kuan also pointed out that after the havoc caused by deadly Super Typhoon Hato in 2017, Macao Water has been upgrading its water supply facilities to enhance the city’s flood prevention and control capabilities, “which enabled the company to get through Typhoon Mangkhut [last year] by effectively safeguarding water supply services.
