Inflation rate hits 2.79 pct last month

Macau’s composite consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2.79 percent year-on-year last month, down 0.25 percentage points from the 3.04 percent growth in January, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said.

Macau’s composite consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2.79 percent year-on-year last month, down 0.25 percentage points from the 3.04 percent growth in January, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said.

According to a DSEC statement, the increase was attributable to the higher cost of eating out and rising residential rents, as well as rising prices of motor cars, adults’ clothing and fruit.

The price indices of education, transport, and clothing and footwear grew “notably” by 5.95 percent, 5.06 percent and 4.48 percent respectively year-on-year.

The composite CPI last month rose by 0.68 percent month-to-month.

For the 12 months through last month, the average composite CPI rose by 3.09 percent from the previous period, with notable increases in the price indices of clothing and footwear (+6.33 percent) and transport (+5.54 percent).
The average composite CPI for the first two months of the year increased by 2.91 percent year-on-year.(Macaunews)
