Gaming operator Sands China said in a statement on Monday that it is donating 30,000 bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitiser gel – 9,000 litres in total – to local community organisations as part of the company’s novel coronavirus (COVID-19) relief efforts.

According to the statement, the 300-ml bottles, which were procured locally, were donated to three local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at a ceremony at The Parisian Macao on Sunday: the Women’s General Association of Macau, the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM) and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), widely known by their Cantonese names: Fu Luen, Kai Fong and Gung Luen.

Each organisation received 10,000 bottles to distribute to people in need, the statement said.

“Sands China Ltd. pledged to donate 5 million patacas [US$625,000] in relief funds earlier this month as a way to help Macau safeguard the public from this fast-spreading virus,” the statement quoted Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai as saying.

“Through the donation of hand sanitisers and facemasks, and through other measures, we hope our company’s corporate social responsibility efforts are able to make a significant difference in Macau’s fight against the novel coronavirus, in support of the government’s virus prevention initiatives.”
