Macau Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) President Simon Chan Weng Hong said Monday that adjustments were needed for the local airport expansion project after central government officials reviewed it.
Chan made the comments on the sidelines of a public function.
According to Chan, the adjustments will be made in line with the central government officials’ opinions.
“We’ve made some detailed analyses of the technical report based on [the officials’] opinions,” Chan said, “We’re in the research process and hopefully early next year we can go forward with the adjustments.”
Asked what kinds of adjustments were needed, Chan said that “as Macau is surrounded by water, any changes will have an impact on the [coastal] waters and that’s what we’ll be working on.”
According to previous reports, the airport expansion project will cost the government 6 billion patacas.
According to the Macau Post Daily, the expansion project, as presented on the Macau International Airport’s website, is to be carried out in three phases, with the first phase increasing handling capacity to 7 million passengers by 2019, the second phase to 11 million passengers between 2025 and 2037 and the third phase to 15 million passengers between 2033 and 2040.
