Representatives of Macau’s six gaming operators said on Wednesday they believed the share of income from their non-gaming businesses in their total revenue will continue to rise.
The remarks were made during a press conference at Studio City before attending a forum about their non-gaming business activities, organised by the Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM).
Wynn Resorts Macau Executive Director Linda Chen said when addressing the press conference that the non-gaming revenue increase rates in Macau exceeded those of Las Vegas Strip.
According to the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC), non-gaming businesses accounted for 5.93 percent of all the revenue generated by the city’s six gaming operators in 2013. The non-gaming businesses accounted for 13 percent of the six gaming operators’ total takings last year.
Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai, who also addressed the press conference, said that growth in non-gaming revenue would be a long process, but he believed it would continue to rise if all six operators kept developing their non-gaming businesses such as conventions and exhibitions.
SJM Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer Angela Leong On Kei said her company would increase its non-gaming footprint when its Grand Lisboa Palace resort opens in Cotai. Leong added that being part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) would be advantageous for the development of the city’s non-gaming businesses as well.
