Kenyan athletes bag top honours at the Sands China Macao International 10K Race

As expected, Kenyan runners dominated the 2023 Sands China Macao International 10K race, held Sunday. 

Edwin Soi from Kenya won the overall 10K men’s title with a new race record of 29:16, according to an official handout. Compatriots Mathew Samperu and Joseph Ngare came in second and third place.

Kenyan Winrose Chepkorir was the women’s champion, outpacing compatriot Lucy Ndambuki and Hungary’s Zsofia Kovacs with a time of 34:22, also a new race record.

Wong Chin Wa was the first local male runner over the line, posting a time of 33:59. The first local female to finish was Hoi Long, who completed the course in 38:22. Both times are records for hometown runners. 

The event started at 7:30 a.m. at Sai Van Lake Square, with the route proceeding along Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, passing the Kun Iam Ecumenical Center, and crossing the Sai Van Bridge to reach the finish line at the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium.  

Around 10,000 runners took part in the 2023 Sands China Macao International 10K race, jointly organised by the Sports Bureau and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, and title-sponsored by Sands China Ltd.
