A website launched by the government on Monday aims to give the public easier access to information on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS).

The website features official news – including the latest pictures, videos and information on live broadcasts – in three languages: Chinese (simplified and traditional), English and Portuguese.

The website has an “Events” section, with information about celebrations to mark the anniversary, the statement noted.

‘Our Two Decades’

According to the statement, the website includes a section called “Our Two Decades”. At the top of the section is a link to a PDF of a 120-page publication specially prepared by GCS to show Macau’s developmental progress since December 1999.

The publication captures the essence of Macau from residents’ perspectives, demonstrating the characteristics of Macau in a new era and illustrating stories of Macau and its people through photographs, as well as the important initiatives that have been launched in the 20 years and that carry “profound significance”, the statement noted.

The statement also pointed out that a promotional video produced by GCS will also be available on the website. The video aims to show Macau’s roles in the new era, and the city’s “unique advantages” as a world centre of tourism and leisure and as a commercial and trade cooperation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs), the statement underlined.

In the “Our Two Decades” section, the website incorporates links to six articles summarising Macau’s achievements over the past two decades.

According to the Macau Post Daily, the articles mainly include the following themes: the implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle; Macau’s integration into the overall national development plan; the city’s progress in relation to its moderate economic diversification; the local government’s effort to nurture a greater number of local talented people; the community’s participation in the development and the local government’s programme for sharing prosperity to improve people’s well-being; and Macau’s new cityscape, the statement noted.
