The public University of Macau (UM) announced today that it will resume its on-campus courses on April 20 for undergraduate students graduating this year.
According to a UM statement, “the university has decided that bachelor’s [degree] students graduating this academic year will resume classes on April 20 and that bachelor’s [degree] students not graduating this academic year will continue with distance learning until the end of this semester,” adding that “students are not allowed to return to the campus before class resumption without authorisation.”
The statement noted that “during the [on-campus] class resumption period, classes will be conducted in the form of traditional face-to-face instruction blended with distance learning.”
The statement also said that bachelor’s degree students not graduating this academic year will continue with distance learning until the end of the semester, and examinations will be postponed to between May 20 and June 1.
According to the statement, the university will initiative on-campus class resumption for master’s degree and PhD students “in a timely manner”, adding that “these students are not allowed to return to the university without authorisation prior to class resumption.” The university has been closed since the Chinese New Year holiday in late January in response to the COVID-19 epidemic. The UM campus is situated on a 1-square-kilometre plot of land on Hengqin Island leased from the Chinese mainland.
