Typhoon Ma-on: Weather bureau may issue Signal No 8 between 9 pm and midnight

Signal No 8 may be hoisted between 9 pm and midnight as the winds – brought by Typhoon Ma-on – in Macao are predicted to intensify, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) announced. 

As of now, Typhoon Signal No 3 and the Yellow Storm Surge Warning remain in force, while the Orange Storm Surge Warning will take effect at 8 pm tonight. Due to strong winds and gusts, all drivers are advised to pay attention to road safety, while motorcyclists are urged to use the designated motorcycle lanes on Sai Van Bridge. 

At 5 pm, Severe Tropical Storm Ma-on was located about 360 kilometres southeast of Macao and was generally heading west of the Pearl River Estuary.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Observatory has announced the city will issue Typhoon Signal No 8 at or before 7:25 pm tonight.
