The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) replaced the Tropical Cyclone Signal No 1 it hoisted yesterday with Signal No 3 at 11.30 am as the local winds continue to strengthen.

The Signal No 3 will remain in effect during the day with a “medium possibility” of T8 being hoisted later this evening, according to SMG.

At around noon the tropical depression was located about 620 kilometres south of Macao, moving towards the western coast of Guangdong province.

As the winds over the bridges are expected to be strong, drivers are advised to pay attention to traffic safety, while motorcyclists should travel between the Macao Peninsula and Taipa through the motorcycle lane on Sai Van Bridge, the weather bureau pointed out.

Macao is likely to experience thunderstorms as heavy rain is already starting to affect the city, with the possibility of flooding in the Inner Harbour area. The Blue Storm Surge warning may be issued by SMG between 1 pm and 3 pm.
