There were traffic jams and “slow moving traffic” on the northern part of the peninsula on Thursday morning, the first day of the annual Macau Grand Prix, which ends on Sunday, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement.

According to the statement, during the 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. rush hour the traffic was very busy and “slow” in Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira, Avenida do Coronel Mesquita anda Avenida de Sidónio Pais.

There were traffic jams in Avenida do Almirante Lacerda, and near the Barrier Gate checkpoint, according to the statement.

The statement said that the traffic jams started to subside at 10:30 a.m. “The overall traffic situation resumed to normal at 10:30 a.m.,” the statement said.

The statement also urged residents to check up on the traffic information before going outside, as well as to leave home earlier to get to work or school, and use public transport as much as possible.
