The Macau government announced Thursday that it has decided to extend the current Chinese New Year (CNY) holidays for the city’s school pupils and university students until further notice.

According to a statement by the government’s education authorities, the holidays will continue “sine die” for all kindergartens, primary and secondary schools as well as all tertiary education institutions, private tutorial centres and continuing education institutions.

According to the statement, the extension aims to protect the health of students and teachers in the wake of the novel coronavirus threat.

According to the Macau Post Daily, the authorities urged Macau’s education institutions to use online teaching methods during the extended holiday period.

Last week, the government had extended local schools’ CNY holidays until February 10. The education authorities said yesterday that the end of the extended holidays would be announced one week in advance.
