The Government of Macau announced on Monday that as of midnight, whoever arrives in the territory from any country or region — with the exception of Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong — will have to be quarantined for 14 days.

The announcement was done by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao Ieong U at the daily press conference.

The secretary explained that the place where the quarantine will be carried out is indicated by the Health Services.

“It is not he [the person] who chooses where he is subject to medical observation. Who chooses are the health services”, she stressed.

Anyone — whether resident, non-resident worker or tourist — who has been in a country considered to be of high epidemic incidence will be redirected to the hotel designated by the authorities for quarantine.

At the moment, the whole of Europe is considered a zone of high epidemic incidence, as well as the United States, Canada, Brazil, Egypt, Australia, Japan, South Korea and Iran.

When entering Macau, all visitors must complete the health declaration.

“If you make a false declaration, you incur a criminal offense with a penalty of up to six months or 60 days of fine,” the authorities said.
