A total of 127 Public Security Police (PSP) officers have been punished for having left their posts without permission while they were on duty during Chinese New Year last year, the Secretariat for Security said on its website on Thursday.

According to the website, a number of PSP officers were discovered to have left their posts while they were on duty in police stations over a period of five days during Chinese New Year early last year. Consequently, disciplinary proceedings against the officers had been commenced.

According to local newspaper, The Macau Post Daily, by watching the video surveillance recordings of the period during the investigation, another 130 officers were found to have remained in pantries or rest areas while they were on duty, according to the website.

The Public Security Police questioned all officers involved to find out if they were waiting to go out on patrol or if they had left their post without permission, according to the website.

A total of 150 PSP officers went through disciplinary proceedings as a result, according to the website.

After investigating, a total of 127 PSP officers have had their disciplinary violations confirmed. PSP Commissioner Leong Man Cheong decided late last month to punish the officers by fining them, according to the website.

The website does not reveal how much the officers have been fined.
