A police officer attending an instructor training course at the Macao Public Security Forces’ (FSM) shooting range in Coloane was rushed to the Conde de São Januário Hospital for emergency treatment at about 10 am yesterday after he was shot and injured in the right thigh during the training course.

According to the FSM, the officer, who joined the Public Security Police in 1997, sustained lacerations on his right thigh. The FSM added that the patient was in stable condition.

The training course, which was divided into theoretical and practical marksmanship, strictly followed the relevant safety rules of the shooting range, the FSM said, stressing that all the trainees had completed the theoretical part and all the officers had been practising marksmanship for several days.

No details were available concerning the type of weapon involved, or whether the officer shot himself or was wounded by another.

The FSM said it is highly concerned about the incident and is reviewing the training course’s safety measures to prevent such incidents from happening again, The Macau Post Daily reported.
