According to Xinhua, the local People’s Liberation Army (PLA) garrison completed its routine annual rotation early Thursday morning.

It was the 20th troop rotation since the PLA began garrisoning Macau in 1999, Xinhua said.

Xinhua noted that the Hong Kong PLA garrison completed its 22nd rotation also in the wee hours of Thursday.

According to Xinhua, the rotation was approved by the Central Military Commission (CMC) in Beijing, pointing out that the move was a “normal routine” annual rotation in line with the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Garrisoning the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR).

The national newswire noted that the new Macau garrison members have been trained and carried out studies to master military skills and knowledge about the general situation in Macau and relevant laws.

The wire service pointed out that the new garrison members pledged to “resolutely” follow the command of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the CMC, as well as to firmly implement the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, the Macau Basic Law and the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Garrisoning the MSAR.

Xinhua also pointed out that the new garrison members pledged to “resolutely” safeguard the nation’s sovereignty, security and development interests, and also to effectively perform their defence duty in Macau and make new and greater contributions to maintain the prosperity and stability of Macau.

According to the Macau Post Daily, the Xinhua article did not reveal the number of military personnel or amount of equipment in the rotation in Macau.
