From 12 pm on 13 July, all passengers entering Macao via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) from Hong Kong must present a nucleic acid test (NAT) certificate proving they are COVID-19 negative and must be issued within the last seven days, according to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre today.

The statement also said that this new measure is to protect the safety of crew members and other passengers.

On Sunday night they had also announced in a statement that, starting 6 am today, all outgoing passengers from Macao must present a NAT certificate confirming they are COVID-19 negative and must be issued within the last seven days.

Hong Kong has now entered the third wave of the COVID-19, with more than 50 new registered cases as of writing this. According to RTHK, infectious diseases experts have called the Hong Kong government to tighten anti-epidemic measures. They also say this latest outbreak is more dangerous than the second wave the city experienced in March.

In total, Hong Kong has recorded 1,469 infections, and there have been seven deaths. Macao has fared better, registering 46 confirmed cases with all but one still in isolation at the Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre.
