Bilingual schooling promotes both Chinese and English mindsets and biculturalism, according to a leading educationalist in Hengqin.

Harrow Innovation Leadership Academy Zhuhai Branch headmaster Charles Grayhurst said the school aims to let students have the best of both the Chinese and Western worlds by enjoying a hybrid education from both cultures.

He also said that parents would prefer a bilingual school located in Hengqin because it is close to big cities such as Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macao and Shenzhen.

He underlined that Harrow School is a reputable institution, and that he hopes that it could help to provide an international quality schooling system for children in the Greater Bay Area. He also pointed out that by attending a bilingual school, students can still be close to Chinese culture while better connected to the international stage.

Harrow School was founded in England in 1572, and has numerous branches in Asia. It only recently opened its 48,000 square metre campus in Hengqin, offering classes for 1,300 students from Grade 1 to Grade 9, The Macau Post Daily reported.

At present, the school has 200 pupils, including 40 from Macao. Fees range from RMB 230,000-285,000 per year.
