The Government Information Bureau (GCS) launched the “Government News Channel” on the Telegram messaging platform on Friday. The objective is to offer the public an additional, easily accessible route to the latest official news.

This new service delivers official news in three different languages – Chinese, Portuguese and English – for those who have installed Telegram onto their smartphone. The channels will also be accessible through the web browser via Telegram Web.

The launch of its Instagram account has been to increase its reach to younger people. Since its launch on February 10, the account has been providing updates that feature photographs, videos and infographics on novel coronavirus (COVID-19) news.
