Starting tomorrow, drivers and vehicle owners will no longer need to keep the physical copy of their driving licence in their wallets, as the government introduces the digital driving licence via the Macao One Account.

The government said over 50 per cent of registered vehicles are already linked to the Macao One Account.

Ng Wai Han, Deputy Director Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, said:

“Relevant departments will continue to issue physical copies of documents. However, as some documents are digitalised, we will not have to find and show the documents when we are driving. Those documents, including driving licence, and civil liability insurance, can be linked to the Macao One Account. We can show those documents to the authorities for inspection and authentication. The information on the vehicle identification document, and proof of vehicle registration have been transferred to the Macao One Account.”

For individuals who have to link the civil liability insurance issued before 15 August, the relevant QR code can be requested from the insurance company via Macao One Account. The company will provide a QR code via text message.

The government said that over 240,000 vehicles have been registered and approximately 130,000 are already linked to the Macao One Account. Police are reminding drivers that they are still required to provide physical copies of the documents when Macao One Account is under maintenance.

Screenshots or photos of the relevant documents will not be considered valid. And while the digital version of documents on Macao One Account will only be valid starting this Saturday, drivers can already link their driving licence, insurance and other essential documents to their Macao One Account, TDM reported.
