Avoid all cinemas and concerts and wear masks in public

Kindergartens, schools, universities, libraries and cultural venues will be closed until at least the 10th February.

The director of the Macau Health Bureau (SSM), Lei Chin Ion, advised that residents and visitors should not go to cinemas or concerts in oder to avoid any contamination of the virus due to closed spaces.

“It’s not good to stay 2 or 3 hours in a closed space without air flow together with other people” he said.

Lei Chin Ion, speaking at a press conference today, asked the public to use masks when traveling in buses or other transports to avoid contamination of the Wuhan virus. He also said that the situation of two of the patients hospitalised in Macau due to the virus are improving and that 11 people are still hospitalised and under observation.

Kindergartens, schools, universities, libraries and cultural venues will be closed until at least the 10th February.

The government also announced the cancelation of all Chinese New Year festivities with the exception of a location to burn firecrackers.

Macau has ordered 20 million masks to be sold in 56 local pharmacies at a price of MOP 8 (US $ 1) per 10. Half of the order has already arrived in Macau.

Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng visited the Conde Sao Januário Hospital, the Health Center in Hac Sa Van and the border of the bridge Hong Kong-Zhuhai -Macau today to inspect the situation and the measures that have been put in force by the Macau government.

Workers from the local gaming operators have been asking the government to close the casinos in order to avoid the proliferation of the virus in Macau.

The Chinese government confirmed today that 1,287 people are infected by the wuhan coronavirus in the mainland and so far 41 people have died. Ten cases have been registered in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.

The government also confirmed that the virus is spread human-to-human.
