The Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement on Thursday that from next Monday local and mainland residents as young as seven can use the e-channels to pass through all local border checkpoints.

The PSP statement pointed out that it the police have been “actively researching” measures to make travelling across the borders more convenient, adding that therefore the minimum age of using the

e-channels will be lowered from the current 11 to just seven years.

However, the measure is only applicable for people who are at least 1.2 metres in height, the statement noted.

According to the Macau Post Daily, the statement also said that in order to use the e-channels, local residents need to carry their valid ID cards (BIR), while mainlanders need to have with them their valid “Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau”.

Mainland travellers when applying for the permits at home will also need to authorise the Public Security Police to access their finger-print records.

In the case of local residents whose finger prints are rejected at the e-channels, finger-print recording can be done at the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) and the government service centres in Areia Preta and in Taipa, the statement said.
