The government’s 2019 honours list comprises 31 individuals and entities including seven members of its top advisory body, the 11-member Executive Council (ExCo), according to a statement by the Government Spokesperson’s Office on Monday.

Executive Council members Liu Chak Wan and Ma Iao Lai, both businessmen, were awarded the Gold Lotus Decoration of Honour, the Macau Special Administrative Region’s (MSAR) second-highest decoration. The top honour, the Grand Lotus, was not awarded this time.

Five other ExCo members – Leonel Alves, Cheang Chi Keong, Ho Sut Heng, Eddie Wong Yue Kai and Chan Chak Mo – were awarded the Silver Lotus.

The Silver Lotus was also bestowed on Macau’s biggest trading company, Nam Kwong Commercial and Industrial Union Ltd. which is owned by the central government.

Medals of Merit were awarded, among others, to gaming and shipping executive Pansy Ho Chiu King (Tourism) and local animal rights protection association ANIMA (Philanthropy).

Two banks – Luso International Bank and ICBC – were each awarded the Industry and Commerce Medal of Merit.

The Macau Association of the Deaf was awarded the Medal for Community Service.

According to the Macau Post Daily, other honourees included three teams of pupils who won prizes at this year’s US-based International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

According to the statement, the decorations, medals and other honours will be bestowed on their recipients at a ceremony next month.
