The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced today that Macau’s 35th and 36th confirmed novel coronavirus patients were discharged this afternoon and transferred to Centro Clínico de Saúde Pública for a further 14-day recovery isolation period.
14th discharged patient was the 36th confirmed COVID-19 case
Macau’s 14th discharged patient – the 36th confirmed COVID-19 case – is the 21-year-old male Macau resident who departed from Portugal on March 13, taking Emirates flight EK194 (seat 40A) from Lisbon to Dubai. He then transferred onto Emirates flight EK380 (seat 46D) from Dubai to Hong Kong.
He arrived in Macau on the morning of March 15 and was arranged for home quarantine and medical observation according to the policy at that time.
On March 17, he had a fever, headache and other symptoms, and was sent by ambulance to Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre, where his nasopharyngeal swabs tested negative on March 18 and 20. After that, he continued home quarantine and medical observation.
Saliva was collected for nucleic acid testing on March 27, with results coming back positive. On March 28, his nasopharyngeal swab test also came back positive, confirming that he had the novel coronavirus.
15th discharged patient was the 35th confirmed COVID-19 case
Macau’s 15th discharged patient – the 35th confirmed COVID-19 case – is the 19-year-old male Macau resident who departed from London, UK, on Virgin Atlantic Flight VS206 on March 26 (seat 21G) and arrived at Hong Kong International Airport on March 27.
He returned to Macau by the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge. Because of fever and other symptoms, he was sent directly to the special emergency room of Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre for nasopharyngeal swab testing. The results of the March 28 sample were positive from the nucleic acid test, and he was confirmed to have the novel coronavirus.
Macau’s last discharged patients were on April 12. In total, 15 patients have been discharged – seven tourists from Wuhan, six locals and two non-residents. Only 18 patients are still in isolation at Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre, while 12 are in the isolation ward of the Centro Clínico de Saúde Pública.
The 18th COVID-19 case who had been in ‘serious’ condition – the 50-year-old woman from New York – is seeing continued improvement.
Nearly all of Macau’s novel coronavirus cases have been imported, with the second wave beginning March 15.
Macau’s first novel coronavirus case was registered on January 22. There have been no new novel coronavirus cases since April 8.
