Chinese e-commerce platform Alibaba has started to showcase Portuguese products through a new agrifood products aggregator, according to Portugal’s trade and investment agency, AICEP.

“The project will bring together products from Portuguese companies in the agrifood sector in a common web page on the Alibaba platform, owned by AICEP, which will have joint commercial and marketing management,” the agency said.

AICEP also released a report entitled “E-Commerce Diagnosis of the Portuguese Agrifood Sector: Potential for the creation of an Aggregator Project”.

“With the support of AICEP and AMVOS Digital, it will be possible to guarantee professional management of this website and significantly reduce the financial burden of participating companies, which will create favourable conditions for a better e-commerce performance,” AICEP added.

Portuguese Secretary of State for Internationalisation, Eurico Brilhante Dias, the President of AICEP, Luís Castro Henriques, and AICEP Board Member, João Dias attended the platform’s online launch in Lisbon.

AICEP expects online commerce in the food and beverage segment to grow by more than 8 per cent per year until 2024, CLBrief reported.
