Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan will attend a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, today, the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) said in a statement Thursday.

Chan will attend the meeting as deputy head of the Chinese delegation. The gathering is due to discuss and adopt China’s third report under the Universal Periodic Review mechanism. Part of that report covers the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR).

In November 2018, the council held a meeting to examine the third report submitted by the central government. At that time, MSAR officials answered questions – raised by delegates respectively from the Philippines and Ireland – regarding the local government’s work concerning the prevention of drug abuse and anti-discrimination legislation.

Other local officials included in the national delegation for today’s meeting are: Legal Affairs Bureau (DSAJ) Director Liu Dexue and Chu Lam Lam, advisor to the Office of the Secretary for Administration and Justice.(Macaunews)
