Macau, China, 24 Mar – The Macau Judiciary Police (PJ) announced Tuesday the arrest of a man for his alleged involvement in online extortion and threats all carried out in an online forum over a roughly two-year period.

According to The Macau Post Daily the man threats to put bombs at government buildings and to kill government officials, including the chief executive.

The PJ said that the 38-year old local suspect  posted three threads in the online forum threatening to blow up the Judiciary Police Headquarters, Macau Tower, the office of the chief executive and the Bureau of Telecommunications Regulation in January 2008, unless the government paid him 10 million patacas.

In May 2008, the suspect posted a thread in the forum again, saying that he would give 100,000 pacatas to anyone who grabbed the Beijing Olympic torch on its tour of the nation.

The suspect then issued another online threat in October 2008 that he would set the Judiciary Police Headquarters and a downtown bank alight.

The spokesman said the suspect also indicated in the forum between late last month and last Sunday that he would try to kill the chief executive and the director of Judiciary Police with an incendiary device.

The suspect was taken into custody at his flat in Taipa on Monday morning, following a year-long investigation which was hampered by the suspect’s technical expertise when covering his digital tracks.

Computers and other IT equipment were seized at the flat.
