China’s state-owned Power Construction Corporation, known as PowerChina, is to build a solar energy park in the northeast of Brazil with a total investment of some US$360 million.
According to China-Lusphone Brief, the facility is to be built in the municipality of Mauriti in the state of Ceará.
The Ceará governor’s office said that it expected the park to begin operations in February 2025, with a generation capacity of 343 megawatts.

The investment follows a visit to Ceará in April by a PowerChina delegation and was formalised last week with the signing of the agreement, China-Lusophone Brief reports.
“China is Brazil’s main trading partner and we want to further strengthen relations with Chinese businessmen in sectors such as technology, clean energy production and infrastructure,” said Ceará’s Governor Elmano de Freitas.
PowerChina has been active in Brazil since 2006 and operates in different energy sectors in the South American country, with fifty contracts and six projects under construction.
