The 24-year-old suspect surnamed Cheang told the police that he is a university student.

According to Cheong, a 25-year-old local woman told the police last Saturday that she was introduced to Cheang by a friend in April, soon after which she moved into Cheang’s home in Fai Chi Kei district. After two months, she asked Cheang to end their relationship because of their different personalities. Cheang refused and allegedly threatened her at knifepoint.

Last Thursday, the woman told Cheang again that she wanted to break up with him. Cheang then again allegedly threatened her at knifepoint again, beat her with a baseball bat and held her against her will at his flat. In the early morning of last Friday, he had sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent, Cheong said.

Last Saturday, the victim told Cheang that she was going to work and then took the opportunity to report the case to the police. PJ officers arrested Cheang at his home later that day. Cheang admitted to beating the victim but denied raping and holding her against her will, according to Cheong.

Cheang was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) last Saturday, facing charges of rape, false imprisonment and coercion.
