Officials are investigating after Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) staff found eight dead cats since 28 November near Dr Sun Yat Sen Municipal Park.

According to a preliminary investigation, the bureau has eliminated the possibility of the cats having been poisoned or abused, and believes that their deaths could have been caused by disease. The cases have been classified as “dead animal bodies found”.

According to the bureau, the cadavers were discovered in the bushes, sewerage, electrical substations and other hidden spots. The bureau underlined that some of the bodies were already in an advanced state of decomposition and had no obvious injuries so the IAM officials believed that they had been dead for a while.

The bureau has been disinfecting the area and will monitor stray cats in the vicinity, The Macau Post Daily reported.
