Gaming revenue increases 23.7 percent to MOP 22.74 billion in May

Macau’s gross gaming revenue in May rose 23.7 percent year-on-year to MOP 22.74 billion, posting a 10-month winning streak and beating analysts’ forecasts, according to data released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) on Thursday.

Reuters said that analysts had expected revenue growth to range between 15 percent and 20 percent. Last month’s growth rate was the highest since February 2014.

Month-to-month, revenue was up 12.8 percent. May’s receipts were the second highest so far this year. Revenue in the first five months rose 15.8 percent to MOP 106.38 billion.

According to Reuters, Macau’s casino takings are more than 6 times Singapore’s and 9 times those of the Philippines.
