Macau’s imports of motor cars and motorcycles dropped by 53 per cent year-on-year to 529 million patacas in the first five months of the year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Wednesday.

Mobile phone imports fell by 50.5 per cent to 1.97 billion patacas. Imports of watches decreased by 42.3 per cent to 1.65 billion patacas. Gold jewellery imports declined by 24.7 per cent to 2.17 billion patacas.

Total exports fell by 5.5 per cent to 4.3 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted for 84 per cent of all exports.

Imports declined by 21.9 per cent to 28 billion patacas, resulting in a trade balance deficit of 23.7 billion patacas.
