Macau visitors drop 3.6 percent in Q1, down 13 percent in March

Macau recorded 7.4 million visitor arrivals in the first quarter, down 3.6 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Monday.

Same day visitors accounted for 56.6 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals in the first three months.

Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 67.8 percent and 20.3 percent of all visitors respectively.

The number of visitors from South Korea rose 10.8 percent to 168,644 between January and March.

The number of visitor arrivals last month fell 13.5 percent year on year to 2.27 million, the lowest number since October 2012.

Same day visitors totalled 1.24 million in March, down 10.9 percent year on year.

Visitors from the mainland dropped 17.6 percent to 1.46 million last month. Guangdong residents accounted for 43.9 percent of all mainland visitors arrivals.

Mainlanders travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) dropped 9.7 percent to 666,319 in March.
