Macau-issued credit cards rise 9.4% to 1.4 million in Q3

The total number of personal credit cards issued by banks in Macau rose by 9.4% year-on-year in the third quarter.

The total number of personal credit cards issued by banks in Macau rose by 9.4 per cent year-on-year in the third quarter, while the credit card turnover and total repayments also recorded growth, Macau’s monetary regulator has announced.

Friday’s report from the Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM) showed that the total number of personal credit cards issued by banks in Macau stood at 1,403,472 at the end of September, equivalent to an increase of 3 per cent quarter-to-quarter and 9.4 per cent year-on-year, due to an increase in the number of dual-currency and triple-currency cards.

The numbers of pataca cards, Hong Kong dollar cards and renminbi (yuan) cards rose year-on-year by 8.6 per cent to 981,774, 4.8 per cent to 97,781 and 13.4 per cent to 323,917 respectively.

At the end of September, credit card credit limit granted by banks in Macau reached 39.7 billion patacas, up by 4.1 per cent from the end of the second quarter or 22.2 per cent from the end of September last year.

Credit card receivables amounted to 2.7 billion patacas, with the rollover amount representing 31.4 per cent of credit card receivables.

The delinquency ratio, i.e. the ratio of delinquent amount overdue for more than three months to credit card receivables, dropped by 0.14 percentage points to 1.47 per cent when compared with the previous reporting period.
