Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said on Tuesday that if, as predicted, this month’s gross gaming revenue drops to about 18 billion patacas the government would implement certain austerity measures, a possible move announced by Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac earlier this month.

Chui, who made the remarks on the sidelines of a public function, also said that if indeed there were a need for austerity measures, details of their implementation would be released in due course.

The chief executive pledged that the measures would not change the government’s long-standing approach to livelihood issues and social welfare policies.

Chui also said that the city’s public finances continued to be stable and that the government’s financial reserve investments had always been based on low-risk management principles.

The chief executive also said that his government would stick to its commitment to sharing the city’s wealth with the population.

This month’s casino revenue data is slated to be released by the Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau (DICJ) next Monday.
