Students, teachers and staff returning to school on Monday must all do daily rapid antigen tests (RAT) and upload the results onto their Macao Health Code – only those with negative results will be allowed to enter the campus.

The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) said that this means that everyone with a red health code may not return to school.

The measure is part of the anti-pandemic guidelines released by the bureau to anticipate Macao’s non-tertiary education resumption after an extended winter holiday, which was originally scheduled to end yesterday. Tertiary educational institutions, however, resumed activities as scheduled yesterday.

Based on the advice of the Health Bureau (SS), students and school staff members who tested positive for Covid-19 after 28 November do not need to undertake the RAT, according to DSEDJ, which has distributed enough RAT kits to schools for staff and students.

Schools are urged to remind parents to assist and review students’ RATs.

The bureau said that a class will only be suspended, for five days, if at least four new positive cases are found in that class within the same day.

Special education, nursery and primary school pupils who experience discomfort during recovery from Covid-19 may apply for a leave of absence.

Cross-border students must pay close attention to the latest arrangements for customs clearance between Macao and Zhuhai, as well as information released by the schools to parents, TDM reported.

Meanwhile, the 2023 joint admission of Macao students recommended for mainland Chinese universities will be held as scheduled this Saturday and Sunday.

To ensure the examination runs smoothly and the candidates are not affected by the pandemic, the bureau said that candidates must take a daily RAT from Friday through Sunday and report the three RAT results each day onto the Macao Health Code. On the examination day, candidates with red health codes will take the exam online from home, while the others must sit it at the examination venue.

The anti-pandemic guidelines have been distributed to the schools, which can give detailed information to all staff members, students and parents.

The DSEDJ will maintain close communication with the SS and continue to make necessary adjustments accordingly.
