Macao recorded 19 new Covid-19 infections and five new imported cases from high-risk areas outside mainland China on Tuesday, bringing the day’s total to 24, the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announced.

Among the 19 cases, aged 13-61, five were females and 14 were males. Twelve of them had symptoms while the remaining seven are currently classified asymptomatic.

Three cases were detected in medical observation hotels and 16 in the community: seven in mixed nucleic acid test (NAT) samples in Macao, three through self-administered rapid antigen tests, two in mixed NAT samples in Zhuhai, and two among close contacts in Macao, while one case of close contact was notified by mainland China.

In addition, one case was found in a person who went to a health clinic after having a fever. The Centre did not specify if the clinic was in Macao or mainland China.

Out of all the 19 cases, 11 were imported from mainland China, including four from Beijing and three from Guangdong province. One case was related to an imported case and four were from unknown sources.

The Centre said a total of 78 people were infected from 28 November through Tuesday.

Yesterday’s imported cases, aged 18-51, came from the Philippines, Thailand and Hong Kong. Two were males and three were females. All were asymptomatic. The five have been sent to designated places for medical isolation and treatment.

According to the Centre, Macao has recorded 839 confirmed Covid-19 cases (symptomatic) and 2,023 asymptomatic cases since the pandemic began in early 2020.

Meanwhile, local health authorities added one Yellow Code Zone yesterday – Edifício Son Lim Garden near the University of Saint Joseph’s main campus on the Macao peninsula. There are now 18 buildings in Macao assigned with a yellow health code.

As of Tuesday, Macao had reported 83 Covid-19 cases since Monday last week.
