A glass door of a musical instrument shop in Estrada Coronel Nicolau de Mesquita in Taipa shattered and injured five people on Saturday, the Fire Services Bureau (CB) said at the weekend.

The bureau said that the police received a call about the incident at 4 pm on Saturday. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they confirmed that five people had been injured by flying glass shards from the shattered door. The bureau also said that there were glass shards in front of the musical instrument shop and on the pavement.

According to the bureau, a deliveryman, one of the shop’s staff and three customers were injured, three of whom were taken to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for outpatient treatment. The deliveryman went to the hospital with a friend later. The bureau said that the wounded were aged between 10 and 43. The bureau also said that the deliveryman’s right ankle was injured, while the hands, arms and legs of the shop’s employee and the three customers were injured by flying glass.

According to the bureau, the glass door is 1.2 metres wide and 2.5 metres high. The police suspect that the incident occurred when the deliveryman broke the glass door when delivering parcels to the shop, the bureau said.
