Macao Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng has expressed his deep condolences over the death of British Queen Elizabeth II, according to a statement released by the Government Information Bureau on Friday.

The statement quoted Ho as saying that Queen Elizabeth II “devoted her whole life to Britain and to the British people”, pointing out that she “was greatly respected and loved by the British people.”

Ho also offered his sincere condolences to King Charles III, other members of Britain’s Royal Family, the British government, and the British people on behalf of himself and the Macao government.

Britons account for a sizeable number of Macao’s foreign community. There is a British Chamber of Commerce (Britcham Macao) and also a British-themed integrated resort, The Londoner Macao.

Macao’s famous egg tarts – founded in 1989 – which have become iconic in Macao and beyond were started by Briton Andrew Stow of Lord Stow’s Bakery. Decades later, the bakery is still run by his sister Eileen Stow.
