Bank staff wages rise 5.2% in March

The average earnings – excluding bonuses – of the banking sector’s full-time employees rose 5.2 per cent year-on-year to 30,460 patacas in March, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

Bank tellers’ average earnings rose 12.2 per cent to 18,800 patacas in March, according to a DSEC statement last week.

At the end of the first quarter, Macao had 30 banks, an increase of 3 year-on-year.

The sector’s full-time employees rose by 343 year-on-year to 6,806, which included 2,007 directors and managers and 2,060 clerks (including 728 tellers).

At the end of the first quarter, the sector reported 328 job vacancies, an increase of 14 from a year earlier. There were 190 vacancies for clerks, including 44 for tellers.

Some 63.1 per cent of the vacancies required work experience, while 94.5 per cent required tertiary education. Knowledge of English and Putonghua was required for 97.0 per cent and 91.2 per cent of the vacancies respectively.
